Carmel, IN – April 2, 2020 – The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Board of Directors is pleased to announce an expanded partnership with The Jed Foundation (JED), a national nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults.

The enhanced partnership will develop a comprehensive set of recommendations, or model, that will be designed to help guide Lambda Chi Alpha and other fraternal organizations in developing, implementing and refining approaches and programs to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of members.

“This purpose of this initiative is develop a set of recommendations that will describe at both a strategic and practical level how Lambda Chi Alpha and other national fraternal organizations should approach supporting the mental health and wellness of their chapters/colonies and how their chapters/colonies can contribute positively to student mental health on their campuses,” says JED Chief Executive Officer (CEO), John MacPhee. “This framework will be designed to provide tactical, actionable recommendations for what organizations should be doing to reduce risks for substance misuse and suicide among men.”

To inform this initiative, a literature review and new primary market research with college students will be conducted to understand the current mental health landscape among college men who belong to fraternities and also how fraternities contribute to campus-wide mental health protective and risk factors.

Troy Medley, CEO of Lambda Chi Alpha says, “During the past year, Lambda Chi Alpha experienced the tragic loss of four collegiate members by suicide and drug misuses. This enhanced partnership with The JED  Foundation will help us provide our members with optimal support in terms of mental health. The kind of data and assessment JED is providing is something completely new to the fraternal world.”

Lambda Chi Alpha and JED are looking forward to understanding fraternal men on a deeper level. This partnership will allow men through all walks of life to realize a more holistic way of approaching their mental health. Through the guides that JED creates, together we can help national fraternal organizations better support the wellbeing and mental health of their members.
